Start answering

Your handle is the permanent address your answers live at, so pick one you will still want in ten years.

Before you do — what permanent means here

  • Your answers are public and they do not expire. Each gets a fixed address on the open web, under your name unless you choose otherwise, and search engines are invited to index it.
  • Rewriting adds a version rather than replacing one. Change your mind in five years and the new answer leads; the one it replaced stays readable underneath. You cannot edit or delete an earlier version.
  • Deleting your account does not fully undo it. After 30 days we remove your name, handle and email, and each answer becomes a tombstone — the count it contributed to survives, your authorship of it does not. Anything already quoted or archived elsewhere is beyond our reach.
