Shaun White, 23, was born in California. He began skiing at four and snowboarding at six; at 13, he became a professional snowboarder. At 16 he won his first Winter X Games medal. At 17, he became a professional skateboarder and in 2003 became the first athlete to win medals in both summer and winter X Games in two different sports. In 2006, he won gold for snowboarding at the Turin Winter Olympics. Nicknamed the Flying Tomato, last month he won a second gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
