Having a family can be a rude awakening for some people but it wasn't like that for me. I've absolutely loved it and I still do. I've got two daughters, Polly and Camilla, in their late 20s now. My wife Alice and I are very close to them and value their company hugely.

The death of my beloved husband Bob [Bradford, an American movie producer] in 2019 was devastating because he hadn’t been ill. We were married for nearly 56 years and together for 58. He had a stroke in the night. His last words were, “I love you.” I’m so glad I told him, “I love you too, darling.” A week later he was gone.

I create offbeat advice; I don't follow it. I rarely take third-party advice on my investments.

I was never a big risk taker. When I started my first businesses, I really had nothing to lose. I was sleeping on the floor. I had five roommates in a three-bedroom apartment. My car was a junker. I had absolutely nothing to lose when I started MicroSolutions, so it really was never a risk.

I try to find leverage points. Sure, I give to charities and those in need. But for me, I try to help people create and grow their companies, and build a future for people. The hope is that they can become self-sustaining and grow to be a pillar of their community. That’s what I love to do and think has the most impact.
