What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Becoming an actor at all, considering my background.

Still being married to Annabel.

Coming back to work after being ill. A year ago I couldn't see that happening. I am still pinching myself.

Managing to find my wife and trapping her into marrying me.

Words like achievement make me want to puke.

If you think that you have one, then you’re a bit of a prat, aren’t you?

Becoming a father.

I cook a mean dal.

Getting an A for my English A-level. I’m dyslexic; it was never detected and I was written off as scatty and lazy. This proved everyone wrong, including me.

That my son is kind and he loves David Bowie.

Still being an actor after 36 years.

That I turned a broken heart into a career. That I hit rock bottom and bounced back up a lot higher.

I am an ambassador for Rotary, and we are very close to eradicating polio. When I was younger, I lived in Mumbai and, as a kid from England, I was traumatised by seeing children on the street without limbs.

Not giving up comedy, because it took six or seven years before I started earning a living.

Waking people up.

Getting all four kids to school in the morning.

That I have strong, happy girls.

Having a 23-year acting career with no qualifications.

My relationship.

Bringing two kids into the world, but my interrogation scene in Line Of Duty comes a close second. It was 12 minutes long and, without question, the hardest passage of dialogue I’ve had to learn.
