Albie Sachs is a South African lawyer, writer and former judge who was detained and tortured under apartheid and later lost an arm and the sight of one eye in a car bomb planted by South African security agents in Mozambique in 1988. Nelson Mandela appointed him to the first Constitutional Court of South Africa.
