A piece is finished when I don’t have anything more to say. My works are suggestions and I tend to create series of works to avoid routine. Of course I test every painting for its legitimacy. Worst case the canvas gets torn, painted or pasted over.

About
David Ostrowski is an abstract painter based in Cologne, Germany. Working predominantly with fast-drying materials such as lacquer, found objects, and a limited color palette, his paintings are attempts at evoking strong emotions with the fewest artistic means possible. Ostrowski’s work has been shown across Europe as well as in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Beijing. Following a self-imposed break, he has signed with the Sprüth Magers gallery and is currently readying a series of new works. Here he talks about what makes an arts education successful, the musicality of his paintings, and the merits of breaking away from everything once in a while.
