I recently had a dramatic fall on stage in Hungary. It was a massive stage – I was miles away from the audience – and I didn’t expect there to be two monitors in the middle of it. I went completely arse over tit and landed on my chin. First, I felt shock, pain, embarrassment, and then I felt lucky that I didn’t break any teeth or bite through my tongue. I asked for an ice pack for my chin, got up and finished the set.

I worked with Stephen Fry recently and we had a real heart-to-heart. I asked: “What was it like being in prison for being gay?” And thank God someone came in and he didn’t hear me say it. I was mixing him up with when he played Oscar Wilde. I could picture him in his cell.

At the TV Baftas last year I was wearing these heels that had stiff bows on the front. One heel locked into the other bow and I went arse over tit.

I am in a public profession, so take your pick. It’s all embarrassing.

So many things. Every headline in the newspaper, global warming … the list goes on.

Every time I go on a plane I feel awful about it. So for me, and everyone in the world, being able to board an electric plane would be really cool.

I wish I could be more patient. I always want things to get done or happen now.

My mum [the actor, Sally Dynevor] in so many ways. She is the real definition of a superwoman to me.
