About

Venezuelan conductor, brought up in El Sistema, the publicly funded Venezuelan music education programme founded by José Antonio Abreu. He led the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra from the age of eighteen, won the Bamberg Mahler Competition in 2004, and became Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2009.

Maestro Abreu always said something very, very beautiful. He said, “The culture for poor people cannot be a poor culture.” You know, and he said in the sense that for the poor people, for the people that needs, we have to give the best, the best that we can.
