I did work in retail while I was getting into presenting and the hours were long and you were always on your feet. It was good vibes, though.

I’ve never had a terrible job. I’ve been a cook, waitress, bookseller, teacher, freelance writer. I know what the bad jobs are and I haven’t done them.
There have been things within the Kaiser Chiefs I’ve hated – some corporate gigs that I didn’t feel good doing.

During the technical rehearsal of Aspects of Love in 1989. They told me it would be discreetly lit because I was paranoid about being in just my pants. I walked on and every spotlight in the building followed me round the stage.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, his trajectory from performer to leading his country and then stepping up in such a magnificent way is extraordinary.
