I was a Harrods store detective for a day. I was so bad at it, one of the other detectives thought I looked suspicious and reported me.
Serving bar snacks in a pub in my teens. Once I spilled an entire family’s Sunday lunch into the dad’s lap.
Shooting hosiery on top of an iceberg and getting my backside stuck to it.
When I started as a researcher in the BBC, I was working for an editor who was a self-confessed misogynist. He used to practise shooting by aiming his air gun at an aerosol can balanced just over my head. I made it a matter of pride not to flinch as the pellets whizzed by.
That the last general election didn’t take place later. We might have got rid of the Tories with a couple more weeks.
Every time I got drunk and out of order. Especially in my teens and 20s.
Childbirth. And the wheel of our camper van coming clean off on the M1.
An old camper van that has cost me more in repairs than my house, my wedding and all the holidays I’ve ever been on.
To all those whose fleeting interaction with me has fallen short of what they’d hoped; the unwitting recipients of my occasional grumpiness.
Worrying that I’ve upset people.
