I used to be an ear-piercing specialist when I was 16, and had to pierce babies’ ears. It was horrendous. I had to practise on my friends – several have misplaced piercings.
About five years ago, I was in a play that was an unmitigated disaster. I had to rally the troops and go out every night.
I’ve done some acting jobs where everybody’s gone out of their way to make sure that you feel annoying and easily replaceable.

Thinking about all the worst possible things: losing people, dying, how am I going to die? All that sort of stuff. I stay awake thinking about furniture and shoes as well. It’s not all death.
