Right after 9/11, Kenny and I went to perform for the troops in Pakistan and Uzbekistan. As we were flying in, an electronic voice went off: “Warning: missile launch! Warning: missile launch!” The Taliban had fired a rocket at us. I was waiting to see the back of the plane blow up, but it didn’t and we landed.
A picnic on the beach at Seaforth during the war. Somehow I managed to wriggle through a barbed-wire fence and run across a minefield. My teenage aunt Kat bravely followed suit and rescued me.
On a plane with Meryl Streep in 1984: the engines blew and we had to make an emergency landing.
My parents died within four days of each other. I was engulfed as I ran from one bedside to another.
This isn’t a complaint, but obscurity would be nice. You can’t have a bad day in public because everyone’s got phones.
