What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of my family. My five children are all doing quite well, and I’m proudest of them. Of my business accomplishments, obviously I’m proudest of CNN, although on any given day at any given time, the Cartoon Network’s audience is about twice as large.

Well, I’m very proud, this is true, I mean. But, you know, it’s also being with the right people, in the right place, at the right moment. And, you know, it’s a team work too.

I’m very proud of that and I started a drug and substance abuse program in middle schools in New York to help the worst performing schools.

I have always thought of him as the leader in all of this so … but I take great pride in him because he was my PhD student so I take a lot of pride in having sort of at an early stage influenced him, and in this whole field of market design and auction design. This of course, by the way, is the third of my students who’ve won Nobel Prizes.

Patagonia has time and again broken the rules of traditional business and proven we still can be successful. The average lifespan of a corporation currently is a little over 20 years, but we’re still here after five decades of doing things on our own terms. I’m proud of our employees for getting us to this point. Our success is based on quality in whatever we do, and we’re taking that into the future.

I literally said to them - all of our faces were on the - in the boxes on Zoom. And I welled up. And I said, oh my God, this is my dream. This is what I want - I've wanted to see my whole life of working at Ariel and all the things we've built, and making sure we all have a shot at this - narrowing this wealth gap, and putting our stamp on the industry and society.

I’m proud of all my heritages, and I’m delighted that I have been able to learn from many different experiences.
